from the Care Quality Commission. The Care Quality Commission (CQC)
makes sure people in England get better health and adult social care. It is the
independent regulator of health and adult social care in England. Their aim is
to ensure better care for everyone in hospital, in a care home and at home.
Whether care services are provided by the NHS, local authorities or voluntary organisations, they
make sure that people get better care. They do this by:

encouraging improvement across health and adult social care
•
putting people first and standing up for their rights
•
acting quickly to remedy bad practice
•
gathering and using knowledge and expertise, and working with others.
They license and monitor care services
They register, and therefore license, providers of care services if they meet essential standards of
quality and safety and monitor them to make sure they continue to meet these standards.
They act quickly to improve poor quality care
They work together with people who use services, service providers and other regulators to make
sure that care improves.
They regulate:

Providers of medical and clinical treatment and care given to people of all ages, including
treatment given in hospitals, ambulance services, and mental health services.
•
Providers of care services for adults in residential homes, in the community and in people’s
own homes. They focus on people who find themselves in vulnerable circumstances, including
those with mental health problems, learning disabilities, physical disabilities or long-term
health conditions and older people.
•
Providers of services for people whose rights are restricted under the Mental Health Act.
